The Heatwave Continues 🌡️

The heat is not over unfortunately, it’s gonna be a hot one this week.

Environment Canada has issued another heat warning for Halton Region, and the alert runs from Monday through either Wednesday or Thursday evening, with temperatures forecasted to hit between 30 and 34 degrees Celsius.

Tuesday is expected to be the worst of it, winning the highest temperatures of the week. The hot, humid air is going to make it feel even hotter, with Humidex values forecasted of 38 to 45.

Health officials are urging people to check on older adults and those living alone, watch for signs of heat exhaustion (headache, nausea, dizziness), and move to air-conditioned spaces if needed. Public parks, libraries, and community spaces are available if your home gets too hot.

Stay cool out there! ❄️

Midtown Plan Approved 🏗

from Town of Oakville

Oakville council has unanimously approved plans to transform the old General Electric site near Trafalgar into a 5,600-unit mixed-use community spread across 14 buildings. The Rose Corporation project, ranging from five to 38 storeys, marks the first major step in reshaping Midtown into a denser neighbourhood around the GO station.

The approval came after years of stalled plans and fights over building heights. Ward 3 councillor Janet Haslett-Theall said the developer actually listened this time, shifting to a vision with parks, shops along Davis Road, and pedestrian-friendly streets.

Residents offered support for the project but warned that infrastructure needs to keep pace. The town's Midtown Transportation Plan calls for about $785 million in projects, with the town covering roughly half.

Storm Topples Trees Across Town 🌩️

from Town of Oakville

Last Thursday’s thunderstorm hit Oakville hard, toppling trees and damaging homes and vehicles across several neighbourhoods. The town is calling it a "Significant Weather Event" and has fielded 253 service requests for fallen or damaged trees since the storm passed.

Shawnna Craine, who lives in Bronte, watched a 100-foot tree crack and fall in her backyard. "It was a surreal experience," she said, adding she's grateful it missed her house and no one was hurt. Others weren't as lucky. A tree crashed through a home and garage near Rebecca Street and Bronte Road, and the historic horse chestnut at Oakville Museum toppled onto the nearly 200-year-old Erchless Estate.

Close to 230 Oakville Hydro customers lost power. Thankfully crews restored service to most within an hour, with the last outages resolved by 4 a.m. on Friday.

Summer Splash Kicks Off 🚒

Instagram post

Oakville Fire posted a clip of this year’s first summer splash in action, shot from the top of their aerial truck. It features hundreds of kids running around the mist, having fun and keeping cool.

The series runs Wednesday evenings through August, at a different park each week. The trucks are out, the crews are around to chat, and there's a splash pad to cool off in. You can grab food and drinks on site, and the money raised goes to the Humane Society of Oakville and Milton.

It’s a really cool event, check out the video to see what to expect. Next one is this Wednesday at Wynten Park (2495 Wynten Way).

Oakville Hosts Top Hockey Talent 🏒

Some of the country's top young hockey players are coming to Oakville next week. Hockey Canada's U-17 development camp runs Friday through Tuesday at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex, with all practices and games open to the public.

The camp is prep work for the U-17 World Challenge, which returns to Oakville in November. Expect to see recent OHL first overall pick Kane Cloutier, an Oakville local, along with other top draft picks from across the Canadian Hockey League.

Past participants in this tournament include Connor McDavid, Nathan MacKinnon, and Macklin Celebrini. Not a bad roster to follow.
