Shake Shack Is Coming To Oakville! 🍔

Mock up of upcoming London location | Shake Shack Image
Crinkle-cut fries and hand-spun shakes will be on the menu in Oakville later this year, when the popular New York burger chain Shake Shack is set to open a new location in the Hays Boulevard plaza, southwest of Dundas & Trafalgar.
In an August 17th press release, the company announced plans to expand their presence in Canada with new locations in Oakville, Burlington, and London. There are already eight Shake Shack locations in Toronto, as well as one in Calgary.
The announcement emphasized the pride that Shake Shack takes in the high standard of both their hospitality and their ingredients, noting that their hamburgers are made with Canadian beef, while their veggie burgers come from real vegetables and grains. This reputation for quality is why the brand has come so far since it began as a humble hot dog cart in New York City 25 years ago, expanding to serve their burgers in 262 locations across 20 countries today— a number which will soon include Oakville too!
Naming Of New Oakville High School Open To Public Submissions 🏫

The Halton District School Board is assigning the Oakville community a new group project, asking the public to submit ideas for naming their newest high school.
The 4020 Sixth Line School is set to open September 2027, and the HDSB is welcoming “community creativity” to help with the naming process. Interested parties are invited to complete an online submission or send in their ideas via traditional mail. Proposals will be reviewed by a committee before the final decision is made by Board Trustees.
The Board has outlined some required criteria on their website to ensure that submissions are aligned with their guiding principles. Among other stipulations, they’re asking for names that “reflect the geography, history, local environment, culture, or traditions of the community” and ones that are “expected to stand the test of time”.
Oakville Inviting All To Participate In Upcoming “Culture Days” 🖼️
For the past four years, Oakville has been the number one participating community during Canada’s “Culture Days”, the national celebration of arts and culture that takes place at the end of each September, and this year they’re looking to keep that title by growing their repertoire of events even more.
The Town is inviting local businesses, organizations, artists, and community groups to host events or activities that highlight some form of artistic expression. Possibilities include music, theatre, design, cuisine, or whatever other interest area sparks some creativity. The main requirements are that any proposed event be free to the public and interactive in some way. Anyone with an idea is welcome to workshop it further with the Town’s Recreation and Culture Team.
Last year Oakville offered more than 150 culturally enriching activities during the three week celebration, and in 2026 the Town is aiming to reach even higher creative heights.

Event This Weekend Promises To Be “Oakville’s Biggest Picnic” 🧺
For many, the thought of summer ending is no picnic, but luckily there are plans to make the most of what remains of the season with Oakville’s Biggest Picnic. Hosted by Locado, an online farmer’s market, the ambitious event will take place on Saturday, August 22nd at Lakeside Park.
Organizers are promising a farm-to-table food truck alongside a farmer’s market full of fresh Ontario produce, plus a pop-up café serving coffee and matcha. Local Oakville vendors will also participate, including Bronte-based bakers Chelsea & Rose.
Guests are invited to bring their friends, loved ones, blankets, and wicker baskets. Ants need not RSVP!
Local Cafe Charms With Magical Patio ✨
On Friday and Saturday nights this summer, Kerr Street has seemed perfectly normal on the surface, but inside one tented outdoor patio a local business has been conjuring up some magic.
The Sandwich Society has been hosting Harry Potter themed nights over the past few weekends, inviting guests to eat their signature Italian-style sandwiches on their patio, which they’ve decorated in the style of a Hogwarts dining hall, floating candles and all.
A $5 ticket gets aspiring wizards past the Platform 9 & ¾ curtain, where unlimited popcorn awaits and one of the movie adaptations plays in the background. Tables are scattered with Potter-style glasses and prop wands, little touches that add to the overall charm.
Though there might not be an obvious connection between sandwiches and Harry Potter, the staff of The Sandwich Society have created a neat little space where food and entertainment both bring the community together, which is a kind of magic all its own.
