Oakville Transit Adds More Stops 🚌

Image from Town of Oakville
Oakville Transit is expanding the scope and frequency of its service with some major changes next month! Starting on September 6th, more stops are being added to major routes across town, along with a new special route and a new destination hub.
These changes were made after the Town received feedback during their annual service planning review, and are part of the Frequent Transit Network plan to support and adapt to the needs of a growing community.
With these changes, particularly the addition of the Highway 407/Bronte Road Park & Ride, the network will officially connect every GO bus that operates within Oakville.
Data Centres Paused, For Now 📌
Council announced a one-year freeze on any data centre development within Oakville after a special council meeting was held on Tuesday afternoon.
The pause is a proactive measure intended to give the town time to collect evidence and review the impact that any potential development might have on the community, particularly in terms of noise pollution, environmental effects, and electricity demand.
This announcement comes after Mayor Rob Burton outlined Oakville’s approach to future data centres in a Monday night social media post, in which he pointed to the Livable Oakville Plan and the Halton Region by-laws regarding drinking water as tools that the Town can use to set the terms of any future development. “Prepared, and staying vigilant,” Burton concluded, “This is how we defend our town.”

Oakville Street Performance Goes Viral! 🎤

Twisted Fate on Instagram
A brand new band covered a beloved Canadian classic during a sidewalk performance Downtown Oakville, and they reached an audience far beyond the pedestrians who were lucky enough to walk by!
Twisted Fate, a Toronto-based band of preteen rockers only started playing together last May, and though they’ve already played the legendary Rivoli venue it was their casual Oakville showcase that earned them their largest audience yet. Performing outside of The Ten Spot on July 31st the talented young foursome wowed onlookers with a rendition of the Rush classic “The Spirit of Radio” that was so impressive that a clip shared on Facebook soon amassed over one million views.
“POV: You’re walking to dinner Friday night and some random kids are playing Rush” was the caption for the spontaneously captured footage that soon won the band some deserved attention from CTV News, the Toronto Star, and even Rush itself. The unexpected moment is proof that massive talent can be found no matter the size of the performer or their stage!
Oakville Prospect Selected For Canada 🏒
Whenever Team Canada plays Team USA at any level of women’s hockey, excitement and expectations rise, and soon Oakville’s Adrianna Milani will experience it all firsthand. The 17 year old phenom has been selected to represent Team Canada at the U-18 women’s summer showcase happening in Richmond, BC starting today.
Spanning just three games, the showcase is quick but it offers players a great opportunity to demonstrate their skills in front of elite coaches while also getting valuable international experience. Adrianna has already established herself as a force in women’s hockey, having scored 10 goals while tallying three assists the last time she represented Canada at a similar tournament, but making the team is still something she takes great pride in.
“Putting on the maple leaf is definitely something that’s pretty hard to describe, and I’m really excited to keep going,” she told The Hockey News in a recent interview. All of Oakville will be cheering her on, along with the rest of the country!
