JR Toy Company Opens Its First Oakville Store 🧸

Shelves of Lego, Duplo and plush toys inside JR Toy Company Canada's Oakville store

JR Toys

Oakville parents shopping for a birthday present (or getting an early start on holiday gifts) have a new local spot to browse, as JR Toy Company Canada officially opened its new store at 1020 South Service Road East on October 15th. The toy shop first opened in Burlington in 2019, and this 2,100 square foot Oakville location is the company's first expansion.

With around 1,500 products on the shelves, JR Toys focuses on STEM and STEAM toys that help kids learn as they play, alongside favourites like Lego, Brio train sets, Bluey stuffies, and the Needoh fidget toys that have been in high demand lately. Kids can also test out demo toys on the floor and settle into the reading areas, and to celebrate the grand opening, anyone who makes an in-store purchase before the end of October will be entered into a raffle for a $100 gift card. All fun and games, with a little learning mixed in!

11 Year Old Sophia Khalid Receives National Changemaker Award 💛

Oodenawi Public School student Sophia Khalid is only 11 years old and has already earned such a reputation for kindness and charitable works that she was named one of Canada’s Top 10 U18 Changemakers at the Future Is Now Awards ceremony hosted earlier this month in Toronto.

Sophia first started making an impact when she founded her school’s Kindness Club three years ago with a mission of making every child feel included, regardless of circumstances. Since then, she’s worked with an Oakville-based charity to support underprivileged children, organized drives and clothing donations, and raised over $1,000 for McMaster Children’s Hospital.

With this award and national recognition, Sophia will surely continue to inspire others with her exceptional compassion. Her positive impact is already impressively beyond her years!

Two Events Spotlight Collectibles This Sunday 👾

Collectors of trading cards, funko pops, comic books, video game paraphernalia, and more can look forward to a full day out in Oakville this Sunday, October 25th, when two events catering to these interests are both scheduled to be held.

Hobby Con Oakville is happening at the Era Event Centre from 10am until 4pm where vendors from across Ontario will sell cards and merchandise, and offer giveaways and trading opportunities. Meanwhile, over at St. Volodomyr’s Event Centre the Collector Verse Expo will also be operating between 10 to 4, and guests are encouraged to dress in their Halloween best while browsing amongst the cards and collectibles.

These two events are complements to each other, not competition, because all fans know that more events means more opportunities to add to or complete a collection!

2026 Oakville Fall Treat Round Up: October Flavours At La Dolce Vita 🍨

The Oakville Digest

The flavours of fall aren’t exclusive to desserts that come out of the oven, they can be found in frozen form too. La Dolce Vita, the gelato shop at 22 Lakeshore Road West, is featuring three autumnally-inspired choices on their menu throughout this last week before they officially close their doors for the season.

Blood Orange Stracciatella is appropriately orange for Halloween and tastes like a classic creamsicle, while Caramel Apple Crunch is a mixture of tart and sweet, and Pumpkin Spice has all the velvety spice of the pie it's inspired by. Three different ways to say goodbye to both spooky and scoop-y season!

Grand Opening of Second Cup At Oakville GO ☕️

A convenient new option is now available for anyone who prefers to make their commute with a cup of coffee in hand, because Second Cup just celebrated the Grand Opening of their new Oakville GO location.

Though the franchise café has been open since soft-launching back in August, operations are now in full swing after an official ribbon-cutting attended by Town officials where the first 100 guests received complimentary beverages. Though smaller than the average Second Cup, this location will still offer customers the full standard menu of drinks, sandwiches, and baked goods, which should please anyone who wants a treat for their train ride!
