Oakville residents looking to get involved in a sports league, learn a new skill, or level up in an existing hobby, this is your moment! Oakville’s Parks, Recreation & Culture Department has officially launched the registration portal for their Fall 2026 programs. 

Programs are available for all ages, including Preschool, Children, Youth, Adults, and Seniors 50+. A wide range of interests are also featured, from fine arts to martial arts, and even digital arts in between. Participants can choose from camps, workshops, leagues, or more casual drop-in sessions. 

The Town has made it easier than ever to become involved with new tools like a virtual waiting room and a short video guide to the registration process. The first step is logging in through oakville.ca and from there it’s a quick matter of selecting programs, seeing the schedule, location, and cost, and then finalizing the registration with a payment. 

Many programs are known to fill up quickly, so anyone hoping to participate in their favourite activities this fall should act soon!   

Oakville’s Town Council voted to approve a four tower development near the Bronte Go Station at their August 10th meeting.  

The development plan calls for two 21-storey towers and two 24-storey towers. Between them the structures will feature commercial and retail space, along with an expected 1,191 residential units and 1,742 parking spaces. The residences will be a mix of one-, two-, and three-bedroom units. 

This plan is scaled-down from what was originally proposed last December, when the developer sought approval for towers ranging between 25- and 35-storeys, which all exceeded the area’s existing 24-storey height restriction. 

A representative for the Bronte Village Residents’ Association also spoke at the meeting, emphasizing that “growth should not only be measured in the number of housing units, but in the quality of the community that is eventually created.”

Council voted to fill by appointment the Ward 5 seat recently left vacant after longtime Councillor Marc Grant’s sudden passing. Their decision follows recommendations by Town Staff and is in keeping with the requirements of the Town’s Municipal Act, which calls for any vacant seat to be filled if the vacancy occurs with more than 90 days until an election. 

The appointment process will also be in accordance with established town procedure. A notice will be posted by the Town, outlining how interested individuals can put themselves forward for consideration, and Councillors will vote after the nominees have all been heard from. 

The eventual appointee for Ward 5 will participate in council meetings and activities until the current term comes to its official end on November 14th. 

Crime Stoppers of Halton will host their second annual Family Car Show at the Halton Regional Police Headquarters this Saturday. 

Following the success of last year’s inaugural event, participants will once again proudly showcase their motorized masterpieces while attendees also learn more about road safety and auto-theft awareness. Donations made by the entrants will go towards crime prevention programs and community safety initiatives within the Halton Region. 

Last year’s event featured the latest in luxury vehicles along with immaculately restored vintage cars. Hoods were popped to show off upgraded engines, while a face-painting booth on site meant that the cars weren’t the only ones sporting custom paint jobs.  

The volunteers of Crime Stoppers Halton are hopeful that Saturday’s event will once again bring the community together for a display that both excites and educates! 

Beans is definitely well-named because, as the old saying goes, this playful puppy is absolutely full of them! Only seven months old, the young Belgian Malinois is curious, energetic, and loves to engage both his body and brain.  

Beans is still working on some of his manners and his impulse control, but he’s a quick learner who responds well to consistency and routine. He’ll thrive in a home with a fenced-in yard, along with an active family who can match his energy and enthusiasm. Though he might have some gaps in his socialization experience, he could likely adapt to living with another equally playful dog or a dog-savvy cat. 

Beans is eager to learn more about this world he’s still so new to, and he can’t wait to join the family that will help him become the dog he’s meant to be!
