BTRMLK Oakville Update 🍽

A fried chicken spot that went viral during the pandemic is opening its first GTA location in Oakville within weeks. BTRMLK, known for its deep-fried chicken strips dipped in herby, creamy sauces, built a loyal following through social media that brought fans driving from across Ontario to its London home base.

The new restaurant at 280 North Service Road West is expected to open by the end of this month. Menu highlights include the honey popper sandwich with cream cheese, jalapeños, and in-house sauce, plus loaded fries and mac & cheese.

BTRMLK started in February 2021 near Western University after the couple behind it spent COVID lockdown perfecting recipes at home. The spot has been busy since day one, and each new location has followed that trend.

Oakville’s Newest Coffee Shop ☕️

Oakville's newest coffee shop opens Saturday, June 27 on Kerr Street, and it's the first international location for Muslims of the World Coffee, a US-based franchise born from an Instagram community of over 700,000 people.

MOTW Coffee started as a digital platform countering anti-Muslim sentiment by sharing stories of Muslim individuals worldwide. Founder Sajjad Shah and his wife turned that mission into a coffee shop concept, and now local franchisee Asad is bringing it to 335 Kerr Street. The shop features roll-up doors for summer days and a focus on community connection, browse the menu here.

Grand opening runs 10am to 10pm Saturday, with $3 drinks all day (one per person). Asad and his family have been working toward this opening for months, and are excited to open their doors this weekend.

Museum’s New 5 Year Plan 🏛️

Oakville council has approved a new five-year strategic plan for the Oakville Museum, setting the direction through 2030 as it works to become a more connected and inclusive community destination.

The plan was shaped by feedback from residents, staff, and community partners through focus groups, a public survey, and an open house. People asked for expanded awareness, stronger community connections, better accessibility, and more diverse perspectives reflected in Oakville's story.

Visitors can expect more hands-on experiences, expanded outdoor programming, enhanced walking tours, rotating exhibitions featuring more of the collection, and new digital ways to explore local history beyond the museum's walls. The approval also keeps the museum eligible for provincial operating funding.

Nathan Rourke Tackles Violence 🏆

B.C. Lions

B.C. Lions quarterback Nathan Rourke, who grew up in Oakville, is using his platform as the CFL's reigning Most Outstanding Player to speak out against gender-based violence in high schools across British Columbia.

Rourke has partnered with Be More Than a Bystander, a program launched in 2011 by the B.C. Lions and the Ending Violence Association of B.C. He's been visiting schools to teach students how to recognize and intervene when they see gender-based violence, countering the toxic online misogyny aimed at young men.

"I feel right now there is such an emphasis on misinformation especially online particularly to young men". Rourke’s passion about this issue largely stems from the fact that his mother was a survivor of sexual abuse. The Oakville native is now using that passion along with his platform to educate the next generation.

Rotary Funds Gaming Nights 💻

The Rotary Club of Oakville donated $30,000 to Front Line Outreach to expand the charity's Kids' & Youth Video Game Nights, which bring together over 30 kids from low-income families in a supervised space to play games and build friendships.

Ron Shantz, Front Line Outreach's executive director, says the program reaches kids who are socially isolated due to anxiety. The evenings run at two Oakville locations with trained staff, giving parents in single-parent households a break while their kids connect with others.

The donation was announced in late May. Rotary has been funding local charities for over a century.
