A Honda Indy race car is parked in Oakville Towne Square right now, sitting on four porcelain cups.

Believe it or not, there are no tricks involved here. Herend, the company that makes the cups, says there is nothing else holding the car up. (did you know porcelain was so strong?!) The display is free and open today and Saturday, 10am to 5pm.

The company has been making porcelain in the Hungarian village of Herend (hence the name) since 1826, which makes this its 200th year. Every piece is shaped and painted by hand. You can buy it in Oakville a block down Lakeshore Road at Nicetys, who put the display together with Herend Canada.

You can also enter your name for a draw! Register in person with a Nicetys rep at the display and you have a chance to win a pair of two-day passes to the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy, which moved from Toronto to Markham this year and runs August 14 to 16.

Dogs deserve pool days too! The Humane Society of Oakville, Milton and Halton is bringing back its annual Doggie Dip, giving local dogs a chance to swim in outdoor pools before the season wraps up.

The Oakville event runs Sunday, September 13 at Lion's Pool, with 30-minute swim slots from 11am to 5pm. A second session happens the day before at Milton's Rotary Park Pool. Dogs and their owners can also browse the Barkin' Market for treats and pet products.

Tickets are $30 per dog, and proceeds support the humane society's animals and programs.

A Renaissance-style festival with a twist is coming back to Andrews' Scenic Acres in Milton on August 15 and 16. Fairy & Iron Rustic Faire, now in its third year, builds its weekend around an original storyline, a medieval take on The Bachelor set in the fictional realm of Shadowmere.

The event is put on by Cool Aunt Creatives, a local group creating social spaces where adults can let loose. Founder Lauren Martin says the faire welcomes everyone, whether you show up in full costume or street clothes.

Guests can wander through seven interactive stations, watch roaming performers, browse vendor stalls, and collect gossip for the faire's fictional newspaper for a chance to win a prize. Tickets run $35.70 per person or $41.65 for both days.

Robinson Street Closes Aug 18-21 🚧

The Canadian Caribbean Association of Halton brought back its annual Emancipation Day Picnic on Monday afternoon, drawing locals to the Oakville Museum grounds for an afternoon of music, history, and community.

The Canadian holiday marks the abolition of slavery throughout the British Empire in 1834. Vice-President Richard Pinnock noted that slavery was legal in Canada until about 30 years before it ended in the U.S., making the day a chance to reflect on local history many don't know.

Performers took the stage under the museum's trees with everything from choral works to spoken word poetry. Vendors lined the grounds, an ice cream truck handed out free cones, and museum staff led walking tours about early Black residents and Oakville's role in the Underground Railroad.
