Local Push Back on Sixth Line Tower 🏗

Rendered view of the proposal

A proposed 12-storey rental building at 3043 Sixth Line, just north of Dundas, is drawing opposition from nearby homeowners worried about environmental damage and added traffic. The 165-unit project would sit next to natural lands and a stormwater management pond.

Neighbours say construction at this scale would disrupt wildlife migration corridors and potentially destabilize the ravine through underground parking excavation. Others are concerned about strain on already congested roads and nearby schools.

The proposal includes 90 affordable and subsidized units as part of Halton Region's push to expand housing options, with 50 subsidized units and another 40 meeting affordability criteria for low and moderate-income households.

Ward 7 councillor Nav Nanda called the project over-density for a neighbourhood of low-rise homes. Town planning staff will bring a recommendation to council at a future meeting.

Hospital Gets New Ultrasound Unit 🏥

Oakville Hospital Foundation

Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital is getting a new ultrasound unit for its Diagnostic Imaging department, funded by a $250,000 donation from the RCO Foundation.

The gift supports Oakville Hospital Foundation's NXT10 Campaign, which aims to fund the next decade of innovation and patient care at the hospital. With Halton Region's population expected to double over the next 20 years, the hospital will face the highest demand for acute services in Ontario.

Ultrasound is often the first step toward answers for patients at every stage of life, whether monitoring a pregnancy or investigating a health concern. The new unit will bring sharper images and faster results for patients.

The donation builds on the Rotary Club of Oakville's long history of supporting local healthcare.

Free Fishing This Weekend 🎣

Ontario is offering free fishing on Saturday and Sunday for Father's Day weekend. You can drop a line without a licence, though they'll need government ID showing their name and date of birth, and conservation catch limits and other regulations still apply

This is the third of four free fishing opportunities this year, with Family Fishing Week coming up next from June 27 to July 5.

Natural Resources Minister Mike Harris called it a great chance to cast a line for the first time or rediscover the joy of getting out on the water.

Nanubhai Drafted By Steelheads 🏒

Arjun Nanubhai | puckpreps

Oakville center Arjun Nanubhai was selected by the Brampton Steelheads in the second round of the OHL Draft earlier this week, making him the second local player picked in this year's draft.

Nanubhai put up 47 points in 32 games with the Mississauga Senators this past season and was projected at times to go first overall. He slipped to 28th in the draft but lands with a rebuilding Steelheads team that could use his explosive skating and rush offense.

Fellow Oakville resident Kane Cloutier went first overall to the Oshawa Generals, giving the town two strong showings in the 2026 draft class.
