Together With Making Waves Swim School!
🌊 This summer, watch your kid go from "I'm scared" to "Watch me!"
At Making Waves, lessons are small, semi-private, and in warm water - so coaches focus on your swimmer, not a crowd. That's how hesitant kids become confident ones, fast. It's the same approach thousands of families have trusted for 30+ years.
🎁 New Summer BOGO: register one summer session and get 20% off the same swimmer's second summer registration. Call us to take advantage of this limited time offer!
🎁 1 FREE Lesson: Families new to Making Waves get 1 free lesson upon registration.
Spots are limited, and Oakville summers fill fast.
Warm water. Small classes. Big confidence.

Ribfest Returns This Weekend 🎪

Time for ribs! Oakville Family Ribfest is back and firing up the grills this weekend from Friday to Sunday, at Sheridan College on Trafalgar Road.
Hosted by the Rotary Club of Oakville Trafalgar and the Oakville Lions Club, Oakville’s largest outdoor event is back with live music, sweet treats, family fun, and of course - lots of ribs.
The festival runs Friday 4-11pm, Saturday 11am-11pm, and Sunday 11am-7pm. Guests can also upgrade with a FastPass for front-of-line access at ribber stalls, a full rack rib dinner, and seating in the FastPass/Sponsor Tent.
Check out the food vendors and live music line-up for this year.
850km Across Newfoundland 🥾
The Walkers, an Oakville-based group of friends, have turned their long walks into a growing online adventure, taking followers along as they tackle routes across the GTA, Ontario, and now beyond. We previously featured them after their Oakville-to-Toronto walk, and their latest trip is on a whole different scale.
The group set out from Cape Spear on June 21 for a 850km walk across Newfoundland, aiming to reach Port aux Basques in 44 days. The journey supports the Community Food Sharing Association and local food banks, with stops in communities to meet residents and learn about the province.
Follow along on their journey. 👇
Town Saving Aging Courts 🎾

Town of Oakville
Oakville is moving to protect the aging tennis courts beside Sunningdale Public School, near Oxford Park, with a proposed 10-year licensing agreement with the Halton District School Board. The courts, popular with College Park tennis and pickleball players, are at least 30 years old and have fallen into serious disrepair.
Under the deal, the town would take over maintenance while keeping the courts open for public use, with Sunningdale students still getting access during the school year.
A first rehabilitation project, including fencing upgrades, is expected to cost about $185,000, with annual maintenance around $6,000.

Our Gathering Lodge Opens 🌿

Oakville Community Foundation
Oakville’s new Our Gathering Lodge officially opened June 21 inside the Queen Elizabeth Community & Cultural Centre, creating a dedicated space for Indigenous community members. The lodge grew from a 2019 request and was developed through Indigenous-led consultations as part of local Truth and Reconciliation efforts.
Designed by Elder Peter Schuler, the space includes rough-pine feature walls, a dark ceiling inspired by the night sky, and a custom mural with traditional art elements.
The opening included songs, ceremony, donor plaques, and outdoor planting with Indigenous and native Oakville plants. A meaningful new gathering place has taken root in the heart of town.
The lodge is open for Indigenous community members to use for meetings, events, and other gatherings. Anyone interested in booking or facilitating activities in the space can contact [email protected]
Pet Spotlight: Meet Bluebell 🐱

hsomh.ca
Bluebell is a 3-year-old domestic short hair with a gentle, graceful personality and a soft spot for snacks. This sweet girl can be a little shy at first, but with patience, kindness, and a few tasty treats, she starts to show her true colours.
She would likely do best in a calm, routine home without young children, where she can settle in at her own pace. Bluebell is all heart, she just needs the right people to help her feel safe, loved, and ready to blossom.
