First Responders are set to face off once again on October 8th at Sixteen Mile Creek Sports Arena, when Heroes On Ice will return to Oakville for its second annual Classic. This charity event brings a historic rivalry to the ice, where Team Police will take on Team Firefighter in a friendly game of hockey. The not-for-profit community building event is entirely run by volunteers, and 100% of the proceeds will go to Food4Kids Halton. 

Last year’s inaugural game was a tremendous success, with over 1,200 attendees raising more than $15,000, and this year Heroes On Ice is hoping to make an even greater impact. The daytime game is an exciting field trip option for elementary schools, as well as a potential volunteer opportunity for high school students. Though based on the idea of a friendly rivalry, Heroes On Ice is truly about the good that happens when the whole community works together! 

During his September 21st State of the Town Address, Mayor Rob Burton touched on the controversial midtown development, as well as several other upcoming projects. He confirmed that the Town is considering the idea of using public land to expand the footprint of the midtown project, which could in turn lower the height of the planned buildings from 56 to 38 storeys. 

The Mayor also discussed the ongoing GO Station upgrades, a planned new Halton Courthouse, and what the dividends from town-owned utilities corporation Oakville Enterprises will be used to fund. With so much planned and so much to come, it’s clear that the state of the Town is continually evolving!

Oakville is offering a full palette of Culture Days events at venues across town this weekend, all intended to introduce residents to new art forms and perhaps inspire new artists!

On Saturday, September 26th, A Print Expo and Fair is happening at Howard Iron Works Museum. Then on Sunday, September 27th, Queen Elizabeth Park Community & Cultural Centre is putting on a full day of creative programming while also hosting the World of Threads Festival. Throughout the weekend, the Oakville Fall Celtic Festival (also a designated Culture Days event) will be happening at the Toronto Rock Centre as well.

Since every one of these events is free to attend, the creativity is sure to be flowing!

Visit Oakville officially announced this week that Kelly’s Bake Shoppe (259 Lakeshore Road East) won Talk of the Town’s Favourite Fall Treat with their Pumpkin Spice Latte Cupcake. 

The plant-based dessert is truly a “PSL” in cupcake form: a pumpkin cupcake base filled with chocolate-espresso ganache and topped with coffee-vanilla buttercream. Sprinkled with sparkling sugar and cinnamon, the cupcake captures all the flavours that have become synonymous with the autumn season.
