Hand Made Craft Market In Bronte 🏷️

Friends of Bronte Creek Provincial Park
There’s no shortage of fairs and festivals happening in Bronte this weekend, between Labrapalooza and the JAM Roots & Rhythms Festival, and now here’s one more to add to the list: the third annual Hand Made Crafts Market will be happening in Bronte Creek Provincial Park on Saturday, October 3rd.
A variety of local vendors will be showcasing their lovingly made creations near Parking Lot F. Woodworking, textile arts, pottery, and jewellery are just some of the goods that will be for sale from these artisans. Be inspired by the creativity, get an early start on Christmas shopping, and make this market another part of a fun-filled weekend in Bronte!
Mayoral Candidates Offer Competing Visions For Oakville’s Future 🎤
All five of the competitors for Oakville’s top job participated in an all-candidates meeting held at Oakville Trafalgar High School on Tuesday, where they each outlined their plans for the town’s future, addressing complex issues like budget cycles, data centres, and the continuing controversy over the midtown development.
Oakville News has an extensive recap of the meeting, comparing and contrasting the various positions taken by each of the candidates, and highlighting some of the evening’s most notable quotes and exchanges. A useful resource for anyone seeking to further inform themselves before the October 26th election.
Downtown Oakville Will Be A Hub Of Activity This Saturday 🍁
Oakville Digest readers are well aware that anticipation has been building for Acorn Fest, the big celebration of all things autumn that’s happening Downtown Oakville starting tonight at 5pm, but the gigantic acorn isn’t the only reason to check out the area tomorrow.
The Oakville Museum will be the new hub for Culture Days during the program’s final weekend, offering an assortment of hands-on crafting opportunities. Just across the street at the Lakeside Park Gazebo, another Culture Days activation will offer free sketches of dogs. Also in the area, the Oakville Historical Society will be hosting their Fall Fair, with homemade goods for sale, along with the chance to dress up in historical garb for “Pioneer Pics”.
Come for the oversized acorn, stay for the chance to learn more about Oakville’s past. Or for the line dancing. Or for the crepe paper flowers. Or for the homemade preserves—or any of the many other autumn and cultural delights happening Downtown on Saturday!

5k Run To Support Wings For Limbs

Wings For Limbs
Two things that make running a 5k race feel a little easier: brisk fall weather, and having an entire community running alongside you in support of an amazing cause. Organizers are hoping for both this Saturday, October 3rd, when the “Run To Rise” 5k is set to take place along the River Oaks Park Trail.
Now in its second year, the event supports Wings For Limbs, an Oakville-based non-profit which focuses on supporting those living with limb loss. Last year’s race drew 250 participants who raised $9,560 and directly helped two amputee athletes, so even though nobody can guarantee the weather, inspiring conditions are what’s expected for this year’s Run To Rise!
Award-Winning Children’s Author Releasing New Book 📗
Oakville author and disability advocate Dorothy Ellen Palmer is releasing a follow-up to her 2024 award winning children’s book The Scooter Twins. Living with a disability herself, Dorothy was inspired to create a story that could help normalize the existence of disabled kids, and perhaps spark conversations between parents and children.
The much-anticipated sequel, Melanie and the Wheelie Friends Save the Day, tells the story of a group of friends who raise money to build a ramp for their local bakery and learn lessons about accessibility along the way. Dorothy already has plans for future books that will also educate and entertain.
