Storied Oakville Photographer Celebrates New Book 📷
Born in Oakville, Mark Zelinski has spent much of the past 49 years travelling around the world as a photographer, and many of the images he captured have received international recognition. In recent years he chose to settle in Hamilton, and began to focus his lens closer to home.
These beautiful photographs have become a series of books, and the latest, “Land Between Waters” is a tribute to the Niagara Escarpment. To celebrate the book, Mark is returning to Oakville on Wednesday, October 7th for an event at the Trafalgar Park Community Centre, where a series of speakers will further highlight the landscape and culture that Mark captured. Entrance is free, and book sale profits will be donated to the Oakville Festivals of Film & Art.
Mayoral Candidates Speak On Midtown Development 🏢
The continuing controversy around the Town’s plan to develop midtown will be a deciding issue for many Oakville voters when it comes time to cast ballots later this fall. In order to understand what approach Oakville’s next mayor will take to this matter, resident advocacy group We Love Oakville posed a series of midtown related questions to the candidates. They recently published the written answers on their website.
All five candidates provided fairly extensive answers on their past actions, the lessons learned from this process, and what future action they would take if elected mayor. This opportunity allowed the candidates a chance to communicate directly to voters without interpretation or interruption, and voters now have another resource to inform their October 26th decision.
Oakville Publisher To Host Jane Austen Tea Party 🫖
When Jane Austen’s characters aren’t attending balls, traipsing through the English countryside, or performing dramatic confessions of love, they are most likely in a parlour somewhere drinking tea. Which is why it’s so perfect that local publisher Plumleaf Press has decided to celebrate their new release of Austen’s Persuasion with an afternoon tea party at the Oakville Golf Club.
This Regency-themed event will take place on Thursday, October 8th between 2 and 5pm. Entertainment will include dramatic readings from Persuasion, as well as era-appropriate musical performances. Tickets can be purchased online for $50. Pinkies up!

Acorn Fest Recap 🌰

The Oakville Digest
Acorn Fest returned this past weekend, building off the success of last year’s inaugural event. Crowds flocked to the giant acorn in Towne Square, the perfect place to take fall family pictures, but that certainly wasn’t the only photo op.
Stilt walkers decked out in autumn finery strolled up and down Lakeshore, classic cars were showcased on George Street, Towne Square featured line dancing lessons and a falconry show, and a friendly squirrel mascot was happy to take photos with anyone who asked. Though only in it’s second year, it seems safe to say that Acorn Fest is a new favourite Oakville tradition!
How To Host A Food Drive 🥫
With Thanksgiving soon approaching, many are in a giving mood, and the Oakville Fare Share Food Bank has put together a resource for anyone looking to organize a food drive. They’ve outlined the main types of food drives people typically choose to run, as well as information about how to register a food drive with Fare Share. They also offer boxes, promotional materials, and assistance with food pick-ups.
Whether you’re interested in establishing a drop off bin at a school or workplace, hosting an event, or encouraging some friendly competition, it’s all going towards the same worthy cause. As Fare Share is quick to note, there’s no wrong way to host a food drive!
