Heat Warning Through Friday 🌡️

Is this Mexico or Oakville, Ontario? If you have stepped outside in the last 24 hours, you might have noticed that it’s really, really hot outside.

Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for Oakville and surrounding areas, with temperatures expected to reach 34 to 37 degrees through Friday and possibly into the weekend.

Today and tomorrow are supposed to be the hottest days, with overnight lows of 21 to 25 degrees offering little relief. The hot and humid air could also push the Air Quality Health Index into the high-risk category.

Health officials are urging residents to drink water frequently, stay in air-conditioned spaces when possible, and check on older adults and those living alone. Signs of heat exhaustion include headache, nausea, dizziness, and fatigue.

Public spaces like libraries, community centres, and shaded parks are available for anyone needing relief. Stay cool and keep out of the heat!

Summer Splash Returns 🚒

Town of Oakville Image

Speaking of keeping cool, Oakville Fire crews are bringing their Summer Splash campaign back to splash pads around town, starting July 8 at Valleyridge Park. Families can meet firefighters, check out fire trucks, and pick up tips on burn prevention, smoke detectors, and home escape plans.

The free events run from 6 to 8pm every Tuesday through August 19, rotating through seven parks including Wynten Way, Sixteen Hollow, Neyagawa, Valleybrook, Fowley, and Forster.

Food and drinks will be available for purchase on site, with proceeds going to the Humane Society of Oakville and Milton, and If it rains, crews will visit the next day at the same time.

Town Asks: E-Scooters in Oakville? 🛴

Oakville is weighing whether to allow e-scooters on local roads and wants to hear from residents before making a decision. The town has launched a review to explore joining the provincial e-scooter pilot program, which would let riders use the devices on town-owned roadways under local regulations.

Right now, e-scooters are prohibited here. Staff are studying how other cities handle them, looking at benefits like easier connections to transit, and identifying challenges around sidewalk safety, parking, and enforcement.

Residents can weigh in through an online survey open until July 20. A staff report with findings and recommendations will go to council later this year.

Pet Spotlight: Meet Sammy! 🦴

Sammy is a 1-year-old neutered male Samoyed with a happy, bouncy spirit and plenty to say. Found as a stray, this fluffy boy is now looking for a home that understands the charm, energy, and vocal personality that come with the breed. He loves toys, tug games, stuffies, and time with his people, especially after a good burst of activity.

Sammy would do best with experienced dog guardians, ideally familiar with Samoyeds or similar working breeds. He’ll need training, structure, housetraining support, grooming, and help managing excitement.

A detached home, secure yard, and family members 16+ would suit him well. Could Sammy be the missing piece to your home?
