Fake Events On Our Event Calendar⚠️
It was recently brought to our attention that some of the events featured on our calendar weren't real. They were fake markets taking booth fees from vendors for events that were never going to happen, and unfortunately a few of them made it into this newsletter too.
The Oakville Digest had no idea that this scam existed until this week, so we had not been identifying and removing these events. If you turned up to one, or paid a fee to one of the organizers, we're truly sorry.
Since finding out about this, all offending events have been removed, and we will be closely monitoring every event that is posted to our calendar going forward to ensure this does not happen again.
We have also added a flag button at the top right of any event as a second safety measure. If you ever see an event that looks suspicious you can now select that flag button for the event to be temporarily removed until its reviewed by us.

Note: The events we promote belong to the organizers putting them on, not us. We encourage you to check out the original listings before you go or pay for anything.
Two Oakville Players Make NFL Rosters 🏈

NFL
This past Sunday marked the NFL roster cut deadline, and after every team in the league had narrowed their squads down to 53 players the names of two Oakville natives could be found on the lists.
Michael Hoecht is an outside linebacker with the Buffalo Bills who will be looking for a comeback after ending last season with a torn achilles, and Holy Trinity alum Kurtis Rourke is expected to be QB3 for the San Francisco 49ers.
Hoecht and Rourke are among a group of 28 Canadians who made the final cut for an NFL roster this year, an achievement that has made both the country and their hometown proud!
Last Bronte Lake Notes Concert Tomorrow Night 🎶
Oakville’s summertime sounds are slowly fading to an echo now that Friday Night Jazz and the TD Summer Music Series have finished their scheduled programming, but Bronte Lake Notes has one last crescendo in store!
On Thursday, September 3rd, one final free performance will be held on the Sails Stage in Bronte Heritage Waterfront Park. Starting at 7pm the high octane musical stylings of Fiddlestix will be on full display. The band is known for their unique blend of country-Celtic-rock.
Music lovers of all ages are encouraged to bring friends and lawn chairs to enjoy this foot-stomping grand finale to a live music series that has become a cherished weekly tradition for the whole community this summer!

What’s Coming To Oakville In This Year’s Culture Days 🖼️

Town of Oakville
Oakville is coming off its fourth year running as Canada’s #1 Top Participating Community in Culture Days, the nation-wide festival for art and culture, and the town is hoping to keep that streak going with this year’s offering of free interactive events.
Visit Oakville has curated a list of 13 experiences to get excited about, featuring everything from improv comedy to woodworking, with some pet portraits in between. Many of these workshops are scheduled to be held at the Queen Elizabeth Community and Cultural Centre, but plenty of other celebrations of creativity will be found throughout the town.
Culture Days will take place from September 18th to October 4th, so pencil (or charcoal, or paint) an artistic appointment in your calendar now!
Humane Society “Kindness Club” Open To Young Animal Lovers 🐾
The Humane Society of Oakville and Milton is aiming to inspire compassion and curiosity in the next generation with their “Kindness Club”, an eight-week evening program designed for children between the ages of 6 and 13.
The program explores different animal-related topics through crafts, games, and activities. Club members will follow along with the progress of their chosen “kennel pal” each week, and learn how the journey of each shelter animal is different. The fee to join is $225.
The club is divided into two levels, with the Junior Club covering introductory topics while the Senior Club goes into more depth and detail, but both clubs are based on the central theme of kindness for all, including friends who are furry and four-legged.
