Site Selection Magazine just published their annual list of “Canada’s Best Locations” and for the eighth consecutive year Oakville was recognized by the investment and economic development focused publication. 

In their summary, Oakville was referred to as “a booming community” which saw C$3 billion invested and 1,926 jobs created between June 2025 and May 2026. The magazine highlighted the Ford Motor Company’s multi-billion dollar retooling of their Oakville Assembly Complex as a major contributor to this gain, along with large projects from Siemens Canada and Laurentis Energy Partners. 

Ontario is well-represented on the Site Selection list, counting for 11 of the 20 spots with cities like Toronto, Hamilton, Vaughan, and Sudbury also making the cut.

The municipal election might be more than a month away, but Oakville voters can have their say right now in the “Best of Oakville” Readers’ Choice Awards, presented by the Oakville Beaver.  

With categories like “Arts, Culture, & Entertainment”, “Food & Drink”, and “Home Improvement”, virtually every type of business or service in town is eligible for distinction. Voters can choose their favourite mechanic, dentist, foot care specialist, veterinarian, and plenty of others, between now and September 25th.

Since the nominees were also determined by readers in an earlier round of voting, these shortlists also function as useful recommendation resources. So while the ultimate winners might be the ones to receive a plaque, in this community-fostering competition it truly is an honour just to be nominated.  

Throughout the month of September, the Town of Oakville is encouraging residents to consider alternate ways of getting around town with their “Smart Commute Month” initiative. Walking, cycling, carpooling, and taking public transit are all celebrated as methods of transport with their own various economic, environmental, and health benefits. 

The Town is highlighting the 20 public transit routes available to residents, along with Oakville’s extensive network of trails and bike lanes. The Smart Commute App, developed by the City of Hamilton, makes planning trips easier, and during the month of September logging trips on the app gives users a chance to win a $100 e-gift card. 

Old Oakville is often described as picturesque and the emphasis will certainly be on the “picture” part come Saturday, September 12th, when this year’s Art In My Garden is set to take place from 12pm to 3pm. 

Now in its sixth year, the charming FREE event invites art appreciators to wander through Oakville’s most historic neighbourhood where more than 70 different artists will be exhibiting their work in yards and gardens around the area. This year will also feature a community art project and an interactive hunt for six unique handmade stamps. 

To build anticipation, select art has been on display in the windows and storefronts of various Downtown Oakville businesses, where they can be viewed for one final week before the grand outdoor salon begins.

For teens and tweens, September means that the days are now divided between “School” and “After School“, and the Town of Oakville has some ideas for how to fill that second group of hours. Drop-in programs for youths between the ages of 11 to 17 will once again be offered at many of the town’s recreation centres, each providing various creative, athletic, and social activities. 

Queen Elizabeth Park, Glen Abbey, Sixteen Mile, Iroquois Ridge, and River Oaks have each put out their scheduled Youth Drop-In programming for the coming month. Some sessions feature crafts like friendship bracelets and vision boards, while others offer more casual opportunities to play table tennis or kick back on bean bags with friends. There are also some sports planned to coincide with high school lunch times.
