A 25-acre field at 3480 Ninth Line, near William Halton Parkway, may be the site of a $3.5 billion AI data centre, and the reaction on social media over the weekend was not warm.

The claim comes from a real estate listing for a nearby property, which named the site as the future home of an "AI gigafactory" from Buzz HPC. The plan calls for 320 megawatts of power, more than 100,000 GPUs, and an opening in the second half of 2027.

Buzz is promising over 800 construction jobs and hundreds of permanent ones. Most of the local reaction has been about everything else: the electricity it would draw, the water it would use, and the noise it would make.

Burlington is in the middle of this same fight. A data centre is proposed for the old Tucker's Marketplace site on South Service Road, and residents there have spent the past week organizing against it. Hamilton got 2,900 public comments on a similar proposal, along with a demonstration at city hall.

The scale is what separates them. Burlington's would draw 20 megawatts. Oakville's would draw 320, sixteen times the power, spread across 25 acres instead of one two-storey building.

The Town of Oakville says no application has been filed yet. If one comes in, it goes through the full planning process, including a public meeting before council votes. More information to come.

The town's Movies in the Park series is back, bringing free outdoor screenings to seven parks across Oakville starting August 5. Films run through August 26, with family-friendly picks like Finding Nemo, Ratatouille, and Coco on the lineup.

Entry begins at 6:30 p.m., with movies starting at 8 p.m. Each screening includes complimentary popcorn while supplies last, plus activities before showtime. The first screening is August 5 at Clearview Park on Kingsway Drive.

Bring a blanket, snacks, and bug spray. If weather forces a screening indoors, the town will post updates on its website and social channels.

Oakville Transit has expanded its Ride On-Demand service, adding a direct connection to Bronte GO station for riders in the Palermo West and Bronte Creek zone. The changes took effect Monday.

The Southeast zone also gained extended weekday evening hours, with service now running until 9 p.m. Riders in the North and Southeast zones can now book rides on statutory holidays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The town made the changes after a recent service review and customer feedback. The on-demand service covers four zones across Oakville: North, Southeast, Falgarwood, and Palermo West/Bronte Creek.

The Oakville Buzz pulled off a major upset over the weekend, knocking out the third-seeded Kitchener Kodiaks in five games to advance to the second round of the playoffs. The sixth-seeded Buzz clinched the series with a 9-7 road win on Saturday night, riding a 57-save performance from goaltender Zach Constantopoulos despite being outshot 64-41.

Oakville shocked the league early, taking Game 1 on the road 11-10 after jumping out to a 7-2 first-period lead. The Buzz followed up with a 12-8 home win at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre in Game 2, dropped Game 3 in Kitchener, then bounced back with a dominant 12-7 home win in Game 4 to set up the clincher.

The team now waits to see who they'll face in the next round.

Willow is a 12-week-old Labrador Retriever and American Bulldog mix who came in as a transfer and is now settling into a foster home. She's a happy, playful puppy, and treats are the fastest way to her heart.

She's food motivated and eager to learn, already well socialized with her sibling and foster family, and working away at house training and the puppy basics. She'd suit a first-time owner ready for puppy life, and can live with kids, another friendly dog, or a dog-savvy cat after slow introductions.

Willow trees are famous for how fast they grow, and this Willow will be no different. The tiny-puppy stage doesn't last long, so if you want to be there for it, her application is open now.
